About:

Michal Fuchs is an Israeli visual artist who has lived in Germany since 2010. In 2020, she completed her diploma in metal sculpture at the Burg Giebichenstein University of Art and Design in Halle (Saale).

A large part of Michal Fuchs’ artistic path deals with the vegetation of Palestine. This has been adapted by the Zionist movement since the late 19th century in order to promote Zionist ideology. The aim was for Jews to take root (again) in the land of the Bible, to take over the earth through vegetation and to bring the “empty”, “uncultivated” land to life. While these plants are strongly associated with certain meanings in Israel and Palestine, they take on a completely different meaning in the German context. Fuchs explores the tension at the interface between these two perspectives.
